Cook describes Sand as “among Democrats’ strongest recruits of the cycle” whose “perch as state auditor has burnished his reputation as a foe of fraud in government, giving him bipartisan credibility and a broadly palatable anti-corruption platform.”
Sand’s rapidly improving shot at snatching the Governor’s Mansion is part of a nationwide trend of Democrats over-performing as the Republican Party’s popularity craters due to Trump’s failed presidency. Americans are fed up with skyrocketing prices from tariffs, war crimes overseas, rising gas prices, and the fact that the president is a pedophile in the throes of dementia. Voters are screaming out for sanity, and only Democrats can offer it.
A Democratic victory in this race would be a massive black eye for Trump personally, because Iowa has not had a blue governor since 2006.
